Tauranga Intermediate School 30 18th Avenue Tauranga 15/03/2011
Dear Mr Diver,
I thought that last week when you gave us an extended morning it was a fantastic idea. I strongly believe that the kids of Tauranga Intermediate School should continue to have an extended morning tea when we behave and act as we should. When you were a kid wouldn’t you have wonted more time to hang out with your friends? Because when you reward us, we definitely want to keep our awesome behaviour up, so we can get an extended morning tea again!
It will be nice if the teachers could have more time in the staff room without being bugged or tapped on the shoulder.
In my opinion we should have an extended morning tea because it will give the teachers a couple of extra minutes for them to mark our school work and plan our learning for the days ahead and plan our school activities so we can have a heap of fun. The teachers will also be happy as they will have alot more time to engage in convivial conversation and they will have longer to drink their cup of coffee in peace, not having to skull it down. Also by having more time in our morning tea the teachers will be able to have a break from us children and they have a longer time to just chill.
The other reason is we will have more time to get more physical education. We will be outside being able to kick a ball around and it will be nice just to get an extra ten to fifteen minutes of fresh air. There will be more time to practice our sports, instruments and it might even help you win the final round in the tough game of chess. Having an extended morning tea will help us keep our fitness level up and it help us gain more skills and more to practice the skills we learn. It will help us engage in more sociable conversation.
If we get an extended morning tea (which in my opinion is a great idea) we will continue to keep going back to class on time and we will have more time for Maths and English, which will help us move up stages and levels in maths, reading and writing. Which will be awesome and the extra fresh air will help our brains rephrase what we were doing in block one and two. So I would really like you to think about this idea.
Yours Sincerely, Madison Boyd

Nuclear Power is WRONG
I believe that Nuclear power should be forgotten, done and dusted. Have you ever really thought about how much it effects the world and the people? Nuclear power has a bad turn in the time to come. This nuclear power coasts less but kills more. In my opinion and many others in the world believe that in the long run Nuclear power is not an option. If you are with Nuclear power you are really dicing between death. The Nuclear power plant at any time could have a meltdown and kill hundreds without warning. Or are you even thinking about how it’s not green or clean? not only this but it will end up giving some people cancer.
A Nuclear Power meltdown could happen at any moment in time. This will kill thousands and make many families unhappy. Having a Nuclear power meltdown normally can’t be stopped. The toxic waste that came out when there was a meltdown in Chernobyl caused people to die and suffer cancer. In some peoples minds Nuclear power is error free, but what is really happening is they are dicing with death.
The toxic waste that comes from Nuclear power is not clean or even green. This means it will destroy the environment. There are other ways that we can save the environment by using solar and wind power instead. These options are more reliable and won’t kill hundreds. Wind power is formed into a useful energy. Wind energy is made by wind turbines to makes the electricity. In this process there is no toxic waste and will not harm you. Would you rather see people die right in front of you or do something about it? In some minds It saves money and will be more efficient then wind or solar power, but in others it’s horrible and a waste of time.
Nuclear power is known to give us cancer. This has been experimented in germany. If you live around about five km out from the Nuclear power station you can get this cancer. In Germany the results were that there were 1592 children of age less than five years who got the disease and 4735 healthy children involved in the study. This experiment confirmed other studies about radiation causing cancer in little doses. I believe that if we don’t build Nuclear power stations in New Zealand we will be keeping our country clean and green, we won’t be letting the toxic waste rome around our beautiful city’s and farm land and finally there will be no people suffering from cancer caused be Nuclear power plants.
Well done Maddie, you have clearly taken a position, used a rhetorical question and identified following paragraphs in your opening statement. Always remember to end with a conclusion.
